This is Egypt's wellness retreat for city dwellers
Location: Giza, Egypt
Founder Madiha Mansour left her high-paying job in the oil sector
to open this sanctuary for people wanting a break from their lives
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) OWNER OF 'BAWABAT', MADIHA MANSOUR, SAYING:"Each one of these gates represent a phase more so than a concept. For me, I want people to reach a certain level of freedom and personal comfort or to achieve their dreams. Some might get there by meditation, some do it by getting a certain promotion at work, some might do it through art. So each one of these gates remind us that we can have the courage to pass through them and take us to where we want to be."
The ‘Bawabat’ retreat offers yoga and meditation
as well as art and musical activities
Visitors are also encouraged to sit with nature and practice farming
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) VISITOR, AMR ABU ZAID, SAYING:"When you're here, it's a break from your daily routine that's very chaotic, noisy and full of responsibilities. So I come here to relax and unwind, bring my friends too so we can have a great time together in an open green space which is something missing from our lives back in Cairo."
