6 Nov– EEG and Universal Music Hong Kong recently confirmed that they have already received the notice from Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) about the cancellation of its annual music event this year - the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards.
As reported on Mingpao, a spokesperson of EEG told the media recently that they will respect the decision made by the station, after it revealed that the event will be cancelled to ensure the safety of performers due to the current political climate in Hong Kong.
"Although the event has been cancelled, we believe that RTHK will be encouraging our singers and musicians through other means," said the rep.
Universal Music also expressed similar notion, saying that they will respect the decision.
On the other hand, Universal Music's resident singer Gin Lee, who was asked about the cancellation, expressed, "Every time I participated in the event, I felt very honoured. It's a pity that it will not be held this year. But I will respect the decision. Whether or not I will be awarded this year, I will continue to work hard in my music."
