Economic Crisis Sees Days of Protest in Southern Syrian City

Syria’s dire economic situation has brought crowds of protesters onto the streets of the southern city of Sweida for several consecutive days, where they have voiced their opposition to Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

June 10 was the fourth day people had taken to the streets of the majority Druze city. Rayan Marouf, a local activist, shared this video showing protesters calling for the release of Raed Al-Khatib, a protester who was arrested the previous day. Credit: Rayan Marouf via Storyful
