EastEnders' Mick Carter will leave Shirley devastated before Christmas

From Digital Spy

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders' Mick Carter is set to leave mum Shirley devastated before Christmas after rejecting a gift from her.

There has been significant tension between the two recently as Mick tries to process being abused as a child, Shirley having also walked out on her son when he was a boy.

Things escalated recently when Shirley suggested that former carer Katy Lewis, who sexually abused Mick when he was 12, had "stepped up" in her absence.

Unaware of what she did to her son, Mick lashed out in a rant: "What really matters to me is what happened back then. I look at Ollie, and I think of Lee and Nancy and Johnny, and I just can't understand. How can you do that? How can you do that to a child?

"Say you're sorry, and you're ashamed. Now you know how ashamed I am of you."

In new scenes set to air in a few weeks' time, Shirley's present for Mick arrives, though aunt Tina says that he doesn't deserve it the way he has behaved towards her and his mother.

Gray then notices this upsets Shirley, who is trying to make amends with her son, and he encourages her to do the right thing.

However, when Shirley stops by later to give Mick his gift, he throws it back at her and leaves her broken-hearted once again. Gray agrees that they can still try to enjoy Christmas together.

EastEnders airs these scenes on Thursday, December 17 on BBC One.
