'DWTS' Fans Are "Screaming" About This Olympian Competing on Season 33
It's official, Dancing With the Stars fans. We now know the first contestant for season 33, and it's someone who made quite a name for himself this past summer.
On August 21, the world flipped out as they learned two-time bronze medalist Stephen Nedoroscik would be competing on Dancing With the Stars season 33. Affectionately known as "Pommel Horse Guy," the male gymnast was part of the team that won third place during the Men's Gymnastics team final in the 2024 Paris Olympics. He also managed to score a bronze medal in the pommel horse individual event in the Olympics, where pictures of him sleeping ahead of competing quickly made him an internet sensation. And if that wasn't enough, he's making DWTS history as the first male gymnast to participate on the show.
"From Paris to #DWTS!🥉," read the caption when Dancing With the Stars confirmed the news on Instagram. "We’re thrilled to welcome pommel horse legend @stephen_nedoroscik as the first star of the season, premiering live Tuesday, September 17 on ABC and Disney+! Next day on Hulu."
When fans learned that gymnastics' "Clark Kent" would be trading the pommel horse for the dance floor, they were immediately overjoyed to see him in an entirely new competition.
"STEPHEN I’M SCREAMING," one person shouted. "I have never watched this show, but I am in" another declared. "BRO THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST SEASON YET," a different follower added.
So, how does Stephen feel about being a contestant on Dancing With the Stars? When he appeared on Good Morning America earlier in the day, he shared his hopes for what he can do as he gets ready for the competition.
"I'm hoping to bring some of [my gymnastics moves]," he said in a clip posted on X (formerly Twitter). "I wanna do some flares. I wanna bring some of that gymnastics — maybe a backflip or a handstand. I wanna have fun with it."
