Dutch get their skates on before expected thaw

Sub-zero temperatures have provided perfect conditions for skating in the Netherlands, which has a long tradition of the sport.

In the UNESCO World Heritage village of Kinderdijk, skaters glided on frozen waterways by iconic Dutch windmills.

In the capital Amsterdam authorities people flocked to Prinsengracht, one of the most famous canals in the city and home to landmarks including the Anne Frank House, to enjoy an icy respite in the city.
