Dubai uses AI to help police fight crime

Dubai police are using AI to predict crime

and decrease response time in order to keep the city safe

(SOUNDBITE) (English) HEAD OF THE GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM AT DUBAI POLICE, KHALED AL-FALASI SAYING:

"How did we find the idea? The amount of data that we have on our system, so we were like why we don't use it in a way that will help us, like we have all this data stored, so maybe we can predict the crimes, so through specific algorithms and calculations, the prediction system worked."

The AI algorithm uses historic data

to highlight areas where crime is more common

and concentrate patrol officers in such areas

The system also identifies traffic violations or potential threats

and alerts the units on timing and locations

Almost 300,000 CCTV surveillance cameras

have been deployed across the emirate to support this technology
