Dubai princess who left her husband on Instagram, launches a perfume called ‘divorce’
Sheikha Mahra Bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the daughter of Dubai’s ruler who recently ended her marriage via an Instagram post, has launched a perfume line called “Divorce”.
Sheikha Mahra on Monday posted a picture of a matte black bottle with “Divorce” written on its front.
Sheikha Mahra in July announced the end of her year-long marriage to industrialist Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, two months after welcoming their first child.
She is the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In the post that went viral on Instagram, she accused her industrialist husband of being “occupied with other companions”.
“I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you,” she wrote, seemingly using the centuries-old practice of Islamic divorce or triple talaq where Muslim men can divorce women by simply stating their intention three times verbally.
Triple talaq is not an option for women under Islamic law, which says that women can only unilaterally seek divorce through a process called “khula”. This involves a married woman submitting a formal request to a court and citing a valid reason for initiating divorce proceedings.
The short teaser of the luxury fragrance, launched under her Mahra M1 brand, featured a montage of scenes that included shots of her and the eyes of a black panther.
On Monday, when her followers came across the post, several of them praised her.
One social media user wrote in the comments: “Do you see how Mahra is moving accordingly? Very demure, very quietly, very princessey (sic), she is not like most of you throwing tantrums or making videos online, no, she is very classy, very reserved, very standing on business.”
The “very demure, very mindful” phrase refers to a popular trend on TikTok and Instagram, popularised by TikTok content creator Jools Lebron.
Another said: “When women are done dealing with you, they are done.”
The princess has not yet revealed any details about the release date for the fragrance.
The couple, who married in April 2023, have removed their wedding photos and unfollowed each other on social media as well.
Her post announcing her divorce began with “dear husband” and concluded with “Take care. Your ex-wife”. The family of Sheikha Mahra or her husband have not made any public comment. The princess had sparked speculations over her marriage after she posted the picture of her daughter with a caption: “Just the two of us”.
In a separate post, the princess also shared a message on Instagram honouring her father for his steadfast support.
“Dear Father, thank you for your support. Thank you for your love. Thank you for marking an era that justifies that there is justice for everyone. My respect and love, Mahra,” she wrote.
