A sculpture of a girl by artist Ruben Orozco Loza was placed in the River Nervion in Bilbao, Spain, with the intention of sparking conversations about “current social decisions on the future of young people’s lives,” according to the artist.
The hyperrealistic sculpture, titled “BIHAR: Choosing Tomorrow,” only appears when the river’s tide is low.
The project was commissioned by Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa (BBK), the charity arm of Kutxabank, for their sustainability campaign. “BIHAR is an exercise in pausing, looking at what is changing and above all, future reflection on what can happen if we continue to bet on unsustainable models,” BBK said.
