Drone Shot Down Over Central Kyiv

Ukrainian air-defense systems downed at least one military drone as it flew over the center of Kyiv on Thursday evening, May 4, officials confirmed.

This video posted by Arad Benko, the Austrian Ambassador to Ukraine, shows Kyiv’s air defenses firing from the ground as a small object passes overhead.

Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko said the drone flew “right over” her house and “a metro station where people were sheltering” before being shot down over a shopping mall in the city.

Footage posted by journalists showed the drone flaming and falling to the ground.

Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko reported explosions and a fire in Kyiv’s Solomyanskyi district and said they were likely caused by the falling debris.

The incident happened a day after Russia accused Ukraine of using drones to attack the Kremlin. Russia did not provide evidence for the claim, and Ukraine denied any involvement in the alleged attack. Credit: Arad Benkö via Storyful
