Drone Footage Shows Extent of La Palma Lava Flow

The Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma continued to spew lava on October 21, more than one month after its first eruption.

The local emergency service, 1-1-2 Canarias, said the advancement of the lava flow led to the evacuations of up to 50 homes on Wednesday.

A total of 2,185 buildings were destroyed by the volcanic activity by October 19, according to the EU’s Copernicus Emergency Management Service.

More buildings have been destroyed since that data was recorded, as the lava reached the town of La Laguna and destroyed several homes and businesses by October 21. Credit: IGME via Storyful
