Drivers Stranded on Illinois Interstate Following Large Crash During Dust Storm

Drivers were stranded on an interstate in south-central Illinois on Monday, May 1, after a dust storm caused collisions.

Local media reported that the crash involved multiple vehicles and occurred near Farmersville, outside of Springfield.

The National Weather Service said a combination of newly plowed fields and gusty northwest winds created a dust storm in the area.

This footage was captured by Instagram user @howiefarmsmo, who said he filmed it while waiting “hours” on Interstate 55 on Monday.

“I’ve been here for almost four hours now,” he told Storyful.
