Dr Noor Hisham: 10 new Covid-19 clusters today, total reported now at 651

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — The Health Ministry has detected the emergence of 10 new Covid-19 clusters in the country, bringing the total number to 651.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said these included the Jalan Pandan Indah cluster in Hulu Selangor; the DTI Sepang 2 cluster in Sepang; the Taman Ikan Jinak cluster in Tuaran and Kota Belud in Sabah; the Jalan Mawila cluster in Kota Kinabalu; and the Jalan Perak cluster in Johor Baru.

“Other clusters detected today also included the Jalan Menerung cluster in Lembah Pantai, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur; the Tapak Bina Jalan Yap cluster in Titiwangsa; the Rantau Lada cluster in Temerloh and Maran in Pahang; the Pantai Peringgit cluster in Melaka Tengah and Jasin in Melaka; and the Jalan Mohammed Salleh cluster in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur,” he said in a statement.

The ministry also announced that 359 clusters have ended, including three today, which are the Bayam Indah cluster, the Tapak Bina Jesselton cluster and the Andalas cluster. This leaves the number of clusters still active at 292.

“Beginning with the Jalan Pandan Indah cluster, its initial cases were first reported today following targeted screening at a company. Presently, 87 people have been screened, of which 77 have tested positive.

“The DTI Sepang 2 cluster’s initial cases were first reported on January 3 after Immigration Department detainees were screened prior to deportation. As of today, 238 people have been screened, of which 80 have tested positive,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

The Taman Ikan Jinak cluster’s index case is the 138,292nd who was first reported on Tuesday (January 12) after a screening of symptomatic individuals. As of today, 46 people have been screened, with 21 testing positive.

“The Jalan Mawila cluster’s index case is the 142,805th who was first reported on Wednesday (January 13) prior to crossing the state border. As of today, 130 people have been screened with 15 positive cases detected.

“The Jalan Perak cluster’s initial cases were first reported on December 31, 2020, following targeted screening at a factory. As of today, 504 people have been screened with 35 testing positive,” he said.

The Jalan Menerung cluster’s initial cases were first reported today, after a targeted screening involving security guards at an apartment in Bangsar. Presently, 26 people have been screened, with 23 testing positive.

“The Tapak Bina Jalan Yap cluster’s initial cases were detected today following targeted screening at a construction site. Presently, 47 people have been screened, with 21 testing positive.

“The Rantau Lada cluster’s index case is the 133,326th first reported on January 9 after a screening on symptomatic individuals, with this person having a history of travelling from Selangor. As of today, 58 people have been screened, with 19 testing positive,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

The Pantai Peringgit cluster’s index case is the 137,894th first detected on January 11 after a screening on symptomatic individuals. As of today, 128 people have been screened, with 24 testing positive.

“Lastly, for today, the Jalan Mohammed Salleh cluster’s index case is the 154,823rd who was detected yesterday after a screening on symptomatic individuals, with this person having a history of travel from Sabah.

“As of today, 423 people have been screened, with 12 testing positive for Covid-19,” he said.
