KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — Nine new Covid-19 clusters have been detected by the Health Ministry today, bringing the cumulative total of clusters in the country to 779.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new clusters were located in Johor, Pahang, Labuan, Selangor, Sarawak, and Melaka.

“These include the Jalan Faizal cluster, the Jalan Satria cluster, the Jalan Dewani Satu cluster, the Industri Peramu Jaya cluster, Taman Mahkota Impian cluster, the Jalan Pakat cluster, the Indah Riang cluster, the Kampung Kemansur cluster, and the Jalan Keroja cluster,” he said in a statement.

A total of 407 clusters have now been deemed by the ministry as having ended including three today: the Putra 15 cluster, the Batu Besar cluster, and the Kupi-Kupi cluster.

“This leaves the number of clusters in Malaysia still active at 372. Of this number, 89 clusters have reported an increase in new cases today.

“These include the Hentian cluster with 88 cases, the Pasai cluster with 73 cases, and Jalan Faizal cluster and the Jalan Playar cluster with 45 cases each,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

Starting with the Jalan Pakat cluster in Kuala Selangor, the director-general said its index case is the 173,134th which was reported on Friday (January 22) after a screening on symptomatic individuals. As of today, 74 people have been screened with 27 testing positive.

The index case for the Jalan Faizal cluster in Pontian, Johor, was the 171,310th who tested positive on Thursday (January 21) after a pre-flight boarding screening en route to their home country. As of today, 400 people have been screened, with 68 testing positive.

“The Jalan Satria cluster in Johor Baru first recorded its cases today following screening at a factory in Skudai. Presently 83 people have been screened, of which 38 have tested positive.

“The Jalan Dewan Satu cluster, also in Johor Baru, similarly recorded its cases today following targeted screening at a factory near Jalan Tampoi. Presently 166 people have been screened, of which 16 tested positive,” he said.

The index case for the Indah Riang cluster, in Sarawak's districts of Kuching, Simunjan, Samarahan, and Saratok, was the 179,823rd and first reported on Saturday (January 23) after a screening on symptomatic individuals. The index case is reported to have attended a social gathering beforehand. As of today 150 people have been screened with 20 testing positive.

The index case for the Jalan Keroja cluster, in Melaka's districts of Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah, and Jasin, is the 150,857th first reported on January 15. As of today 248 people have been screened, with 36 testing positive.

“The index case for the Industri Peramu Jaya cluster in Pekan, Pahang, was the 180,236th first reported on Saturday (January 23) after screening on symptomatic individuals among factory workers. As of today, 95 people have been screened with 11 testing positive.

“The index case for the Kampung Kemansur cluster in Bentong, Pahang, was the 154,682nd first reported on January 16. As of today, 43 people have been screened, with 11 testing positive,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

The final cluster for today is the Taman Mahkota Impian cluster in Labuan. Its index cluster was the 198,084th which was reported today after a screening on symptomatic individuals involving the workers and charges at a childcare centre. Presently 83 people have been screened, with seven testing positive.
