Dr Noor Hisham: Malaysia hits record-high Covid-19 numbers again with 11,618 cases today, Selangor tops chart with 5,051 infections

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Malaysia hit another record high of daily Covid-19 cases with 11,618 infections today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed the latest figures in a series of tweets this afternoon.

Selangor topped the list with 5,051 cases followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,749 cases) and Negri Sembilan (1,537 cases).

This is the second day in a row where cases have broken through the 11,000 mark. Yesterday, Malaysia had 11,079 cases.

The virus also claimed 118 lives today, of which 108 were Malaysians. To date, the total number of deaths in the country stands at 6,503.

Patients in intensive care units nationwide total 878, of which 432 are in need of a ventilator.

The number of recoveries today is at 6,377. The total active cases stand at 101,359.

“Of the 118 deaths 46 were in Selangor, 18 in Kuala Lumpur, 16 in Negri Sembilan, 13 in Johor, five in Kedah, four in Sabah and Sarawak and two in Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang and Melaka and one in Penang and Kuala Terengganu,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

He said the national infectivity rate, better known as R-naught (R0) stands at 1.16.

Most of the 13 states and three federal territories have values above 1.0.

They are in descending order: Putrajaya (1.35), Terengganu (1.26), Selangor (1.19), Kedah (1.17), Pahang (1.14), Kuala Lumpur (1.11), Penang (1.11), Melaka (1.06), Sabah (1.07), Negri Sembilan (1.06), Johor (1.05), Perak (1.04) and Kelantan (1.02).

Besides that 26 new clusters were reported today. Fifteen of them were workplace clusters, seven community clusters and four more were high-risk groups.
