PUTRAJAYA, Aug 25 — The Health Ministry recorded 11 new Covid-19 infections in the country today, bringing the total active cases to 189 cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said two of the 11 were import cases from the Philippines and Indonesia involving one Malaysian and one foreigner.

There were no recorded deaths today.

As for local transmissions, seven came from Kedah, one in Perlis and another in Selangor.

Five of the seven cases in Kedah are from the Tawar cluster.

“As of 12pm today, 3,547 individuals have been screened in Tawar. Out of that number, 3,018 were in Kedah from which 59 were positive, 2,717 were negative and 242 are still awaiting their results.

“In Penang, 518 were screened, 11 found positive while 507 results came back negative. In Perak, the numbers are the same at 11 screenings all of which came back negative,” Dr Noor Hisham said in his Covid-19 briefing here this afternoon.

Six patients recovered from Covid-19 today.

However, eight patients are warded in the intensive care unit, with six needing ventilators to breathe.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll remains unchanged at 125.
