Dr Noor Hisham: Downward trend continues as Malaysia records 4,298 new Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 — The country’s downward trend of new Covid-19 cases continues with 4,298 cases reported in the past 24 hours in Malaysia.

This is a drop of 598 new cases from yesterday’s 4,896.

The total number of Covid-19 cases detected in the country now stands at 2,654,474.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that out of the total of new cases today, 4,275 involved local cases, with 4,125 (96.5 per cent) Malaysians and 150 (3.5 per cent) foreigners.

He added that the remaining 23 cases were imported into the country.

“Of the 4,298 cases today, 471 patients are currently being treated in intensive care units (ICU), with 378 of them confirmed to be infected with Covid-19, while 93 cases are suspected cases, probabilities and cases under investigation.

“Of those, 264 of them need ventilators to help them breathe, with 172 of them confirmed positive, and 92 are suspected cases, probabilities and cases under investigation,” he said.

He also said that a total of 4,929 patients have recovered from the infections, bringing the cumulative number of recovery cases to 2,566,159.

Dr Noor Hisham also said Malaysia identified four new Covid-19 clusters today, which bring the number of current active clusters to a total of 227.

He added that Malaysia’s rate of infection currently stands at 0.97, with Perlis, Selangor and Labuan being the states with the highest infectivity rate, at 1.16, 1.00 and 1.00 respectively.
