Dr Noor Hisham: 13,754 new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — Another 13,754 new Covid-19 cases have been detected in the country, a slight drop from yesterday’s 14,990.
This brings the total number of cases in the country to 2,156,678.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that Selangor topped the list as the state with the most new cases, at 1,985.
States recording cases higher than the 1,000-mark are Johor (1,913), Sarawak (1,766), Sabah (1,629), Kelantan (1,264) and Penang (1,052).
The Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, meanwhile, reported 383 new infections in the same 24-hour period.
Dr Noor Hisham said out of the 13,754 cases, only four were imported into the country, involving three locals and one foreigner.
He added that 1,107 cases were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), with 613 of them needing breathing assistance.
He said that of the new cases reported today, 233 cases or 1.7 per cent were in Category 3 (pneumonia), 4 (requiring oxygen assistance) and 5 (requiring respiratory assistance).
The remaining 13,521 cases or 98.3 per cent were in Category 1 and 2, meaning they were asymptomatic and showing mild symptoms respectively.
Pahang was the state with the highest rate of infectivity, currently standing at 1.03. This is followed by Perak, at 1.02, and Terengganu and Perlis, with both standing at 1.01.
The national infectivity rate currently stands at 0.92.
