Dozens Unaccounted For, Homes Destroyed in Western Virginia Flooding

Intense flooding caused damage to parts of western Virginia overnight July 12 into July 13, reports said, with dozens of people unaccounted for.

Washington, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia were placed under a severe thunderstorm watch Tuesday as the National Weather Service warned of rain, hail, wind, and lightning.

Billy Bowling said he filmed this footage on Wednesday morning, showing the extent of the flooding in Pilgrim’s Knob, a community in eastern Buchanan County. He wrote on Facebook that it was “some of the worst possible flooding imaginable that I’ve seen firsthand.”

Officials said at least 40 people were unaccounted for in Buchanan County as of Wednesday afternoon.
