Dozens of Illegal Fireworks Light Up Hawaiian Sky on New Year's Eve

Dozens of illegal fireworks were let off in skies across Oahu, Hawaii, as the city celebrated New Year’s Eve.

Since 2010 people need a permit to use fireworks on New Year’s Eve, according to local media.

Local news reports said multiple people suffered burn injuries relating to the use of fireworks during the evening.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to more muted celebrations on the island, with the annual fireworks event at Waikiki cancelled in early December, according to reports.
