Dozens of fires rage in Spain

STORY: Spain's national weather agency AEMET predicted on Thursday that it could be the hottest October since records began and said every day of the month, except October 1st, had been warmer that the usual temperature experienced at this time of year.

In the Basque Country, Asturias and Cantabria about 40 blazes were reported, according to regional emergency services.

So far this year 260,000 hectares (642,500 acres) have been destroyed by fires across Spain, making it the worst year for wildfires in almost three decades, according to government figures.
