Dozens Arrested During ICE Protest in Times Square

At least 85 people were arrested by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) during a protest against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in New York, on September 19, local news reported.

Protesters blocked roadways in Times Square to call for the abolishment of ICE in light of recent reports alleging hysterectomies were performed on uninformed women held in an ICE facility in Georgia without consent.

Videos filmed by Isabelle Leyva show NYPD officers shoving and dragging protesters on Saturday, while a loudspeaker announces that those blocking the road would be arrested.

“The NYPD just attacked us at the Times Square abolish ICE protest for stepping off the sidewalk. Several organizers arrested for no reason. Police violence at protests is escalating in NYC, please pay attention,” Leyva wrote on Twitter, adding that she had not “seen them act this violently since May.” Credit: Isabelle Leyva via Storyful
