Double murder inquiry launched in Manchester after two stabbed to death in street in Moss Side
A double murder inquiry has been launched after two people were stabbed to death in Manchester, police have confirmed.
Greater Manchester Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after arriving in Moss Side at around 5am on Sunday.
Paramedics were unable to save the two lives despite their best efforts and have asked locals to avoid Great Southern Street and Kippax Street, where forensic tents have been set up.
A statement from the police added: "There is an emergency services presence on Great Southern Street in Moss Side whilst officers respond to an incident.
"Police have attended and despite the best efforts of emergency services, two people were treated at the scene and have sadly been pronounced dead.
"We have arrested one man on suspicion of murder.
"Please avoid the area as there is a large emergency service presence while we establish the full circumstances of the incident this morning."
Details of those who have died and the man arrested have not been released.
The BBC reported that several officers are on scene patrolling the area and that a green bike can be seen lying in the road.
"It's very, very scary,” a resident told the BBC.
"I worry about my kids because the place is not safe."
Another told the Mail: “We can't go outside at the moment. I saw it this morning, about 4am - out of my window, there was a man laying on the floor and another laying further ahead.
“I woke up to blue lights and sirens - my neighbour has since told me they were the one who called the police.
“I can't leave the house at all at the moment, I'm completely blocked off.
“It's terrifying - the first time I've seen something like this in my entire life.”
Police have said the suspect remains in custody for questioning and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
“We are treating this as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public,” a statement added.
“We thank the public for their cooperation and patience as there is a cordon in place on Great Southern Street and into the surrounding area. We are asking the public to continue avoiding the area as there is a large emergency service presence while we establish the full circumstances of the incident this morning.”
