Dota 2: Nisha joins Team Liquid, miCKe moves to carry
Western European Dota 2 powerhouse Team Liquid announced on Friday (9 December) that they have signed Michał "Nisha" Jankowski to be their midlaner for the upcoming 2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC).
With Nisha's arrival, Michael "miCKe" Vu is once again shifting back to being Liquid's carry, the position vacated by the now-retired Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen.
Earlier this month, Nisha left Team Secret after four years on the squad and a second place finish at The International 11 (TI11), which they notably earned after defeating Team Liquid in the lower bracket finals.
In a video released by Team Liquid welcoming their newest member, Nisha said he left Team Secret because he "wanted to try something new".
"I left Team Secret mostly because I wanted to try something new, and even though we changed three players during the season. It still wasn't enough, I think. [Our results at TI11] was very good, but I still wanted to change the overall picture," said Nisha.
Nisha explained that he chose to move to Team Liquid because he thinks he "will thrive a little bit more" with them and that he wanted to play with their players.
"I'm excited to join Team Liquid, I'm looking forward to hanging out with them. I really wanted to play with miCKe for sure. [Aydin "iNSaNiA" Sarkohi] is a fun guy. I think he works hard, from what I've seen I will enjoy playing with him. And Ludwig "zai" Wåhlberg, whom I already played with [on Team Secret], I don't really like playing with one person for so long, but with zai it's kinda different. You know, he's the best player in the world, at least [personality-wise], talking with him was so easy. [Samuel "Boxi" Svahn] owned at TI, [he made] everything work," said Nisha.
Long considered as one of the best players in the world, Nisha's move to Liquid turns an already formidable team into an outright juggernaut. With Western Europe teeming with so many great teams, the competition there next season is sure to be intense.
Nisha said his expectations for the 2023 DPC season is "to win every tournament" with Team Liquid.
"My goals for the next year is to win every [Western European] league, win TI, and win every tournament, I guess? I just like winning," said Nisha.
Nisha's move to Team Liquid is the latest of many developments in the global Dota 2 scene's ongoing post-TI11 roster shuffle.
With so much of the Dota 2 competitive scene cantered around TI and its multimillion-dollar prize pools, most teams are formed with the goal of getting to the game's world championship tournament in a bid to claim the Aegis of Champions and the lion's share of the massive prize.
But only one team can win TI, with Tundra Esports being crowned as the champions of TI11 this year. Teams are now looking ahead to the 2023 DPC season for another bid to claim the coveted Aegis of Champions.
