Swedish org Alliance drop entire Dota 2 roster after a miserable year
Swedish organisation Alliance announced on Friday (30 September) that they have released their entire Dota 2 roster to free agency and will be going on a rebuild for the 2022-2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season.
The players released by Alliance include Nikolay "Nikobaby" Nikolov, Aliwi "w33" Omar, Yaroslav "Limitless" Parshin, Adam "Aramis" Moroz, and Andrey "Dukalis" Kuropatkin.
This will be the team's third big roster change in less than a year.
After a 9th-12th finish at The International 10 (TI10), Alliance rebuilt the team twice in order to qualify for TI11 and the end result was getting demoted twice from Division I and multiple unfortunate performances at third-party tournaments.
Alliance's tough year in Dota 2
Alliance started the year by placing last in OGA Dota PIT Season 5.
The team's next test was at the 2021-2022 DPC season's Winter Tour regional league for Western Europe, where Alliance went 1-6 and got demoted to Division II.
Alliance looked better in the Spring Tour, as they demolished teams in Division II and quickly rose back up to Division I. Unfortunately for the team, their success was short-lived.
Alliance's Summer Tour was even more brutal than their first demotion, as they went 0-7 and couldn't even take a game off any other team.
The team weren't faring much better in third-party tournaments, as they placed last at ESL One Malaysia 2022 and the Western European regional qualifier for TI11.
After a difficult season filled, Alliance CEO Jonathan "Loda" Berg decided that it was better for everyone to go their separate ways, saying that "sometimes things just have to end".
"Releasing the full roster was not a decision made lightly, especially since we have a history of developing and overcoming struggles. To say it's not been an easy season would be the understatement of the year, but there has been much good as well. Every mistake is a chance to learn and we've made a lot of mistakes," added Loda.
Aside from releasing its entire roster, Alliance haven't revealed anything about their upcoming lineup.
Loda announced that the process of putting together a new team has already begun and updates will be released when the team is ready.
"Going into next season, we will be doubling down on our commitment into Dota 2 and towards mustering a lineup that will do us all proud," said Loda.
