Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a top Arsenal midfield target has “100 per cent” decided against signing a new contract with his current club, leaving the door open for the Gunners to make a move.

Leicester and Belgium star Youri Tielemans was strongly linked with both Arsenal and Liverpool last summer as he entered the final year of his contract at the King Power.

However, no official offer was ever made, despite Leicester being willing to do business at £30million.

Tielemans, like his current side, started the new season very slowly. However, things have picked up for both of late, with the Belgian scoring in two of his latest four games. That includes his stunning volley in the win at Everton.

Arsenal’s interest stems from Thomas Partey being injury-prone. Albert Sambi Lokonga, meanwhile, has not quite adjusted to the game in England.

That leaves Arteta looking for another experienced option, potentially in January. And the fact that Tielemans could be available for an absolute snip makes him an attractive option.

Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz was another option wanted by Arteta. However, he has since penned a new contract at Villa Park.

Luiz’s compatriot Danilo, who currently plays for Brazilian outfit Palmeiras, is another option.

Leicester star will be on the move

However, Tielemans is proven in the Premier League and, according to Romano, he will soon be at a new club – although probably not until next summer.

Speaking to the House of Champions Podcast, Romano said: “It is quiet because he will not sign a new contract with Leicester. 100 per cent.

“He will leave on a free. He already decided one year ago.

“I see Tielemans leaving on a free and I see Tielemans as a big opportunity in the market.

“He’s underrated, he’s young, he’s talented, he’s Premier League proven. He’s a great midfielder in a position where it is hard to find top players.

“There will be a big race, Arsenal wanted him in the summer and other English clubs are exploring this race.”

Now that Tielemans has seemingly decided he wants to quit the Foxes in 2023, expect other clubs to jump on board for his signature.

Tottenham, Manchester United and Newcastle are also on the hunt for new midfielders.

Tielemans remains a class act

As he showed at the weekend with his goal against Everton, the midfielder remains a class act capable of scoring magnificent goals on his day.

He is a no-brainer as a squad player for several of the clubs challenging domestically and in Europe.

However, there is no guarantee he will be a starter at Arsenal, where Arteta loves the balance of Partey and Granit Xhaka in his engine room with Martin Odegaard just ahead of them.

Of all the clubs mentioned, it could be argued that Liverpool are most in need of another midfield recruit.

That area of the field, one a massive strength, has no become somewhat of an issue for Jurgen Klopp.

Naby Keita looks set to move on, while loan signing Arthur has hardly featured at all.

And if Klopp was to make an approach for Tielemans, he would arguably be able to offer the player more first-team chances than Arteta can.
