Donald Trump, Tim Walz respond to Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris

Brittany Mahomes trumps Taylor Swift, at least according to the former president.

During a phone interview with Fox & Friends early Wednesday, former President Donald Trump shook off Swift’s support for his political rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, declaring he much prefers the wife of the Kansas City Chief’s star quarterback.

“Well I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth,” he said. “She’s a big Trump fan.”

Mahomes raised eyebrows last month after she liked one of Trump’s posts titled “The 2024 GOP Platform,” which covered controversial topics, including his plans to “carry out the largest deportation operation in American history,” “keep men OUT of women’s sports,” and “cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, radical gender ideology” or any other content Trump deems “inappropriate.”

Since then, she has been mostly absent from Swift’s side, though they attended the U.S. Open together last weekend. The duo became fast friends shortly after the songstress began dating Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs alongside Mahomes’ husband, Patrick Mahomes.

“I was not a Taylor Swift fan,” Trump told Fox & Friends Wednesday, adding that her endorsement of Harris was “only a matter of time.” He went on to describe the 14-time Grammy winner as a “very liberal person” who has “always” endorsed a Democrat.

“But I Like Brittany,” Trump emphasized. “Brittany is great. She’s the one I like much better than Taylor Swift. Wife of the great quarterback. I think she’s terrific.”

Trump’s comments on Mahomes came hours after Swift endorsed Harris for president. She took to Instagram on Tuesday, just as Harris’ first debate with Trump concluded, to encourage her fans to register and to vote early. She also revealed her own plans for casting her ballot.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she wrote. “I’m voting for [Kamala Harris] because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

The “Fortnight” singer also praised Walz’s history of supporting “LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body” before taking a jab at Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance. She signed her declaration, “With hope and love, Taylor Swift. Childless Cat Lady,” referencing Vance’s past concerns about America being run by Democrats without children.

Walz learned of Swift’s endorsement late Tuesday during a live TV interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, who read him the singer’s social media post in full. He appeared touched throughout, and could not help but crack a grin when he heard his own name mentioned.

“I am incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift. I say that also as a cat owner—a fellow cat owner,” Walz responded. “That was eloquent and it was clear and that’s the type of courage we need in America to stand up.”
