Dolly Parton Posts Heartbreaking Tribute to Country Legend Kris Kristofferson

Legendary country music singer/songwriter Kris Kristofferson has died at age 88, according to a statement from his family posted on his official social media accounts.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home. We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all,” reads the statement signed by The Family of Kris Kristofferson. Kris is survived by Lisa, his wife of 41 years, eight children, and seven grandchildren.

The Grammy winner wrote songs including "Me and Bobby McGee," "Help Me Make it Through the Night," and "Sunday Morning Coming Down." He was also part of the supergroup The Highwaymen with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash. The Texas Native was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and received a lifetime achievement award from the Grammys. Also an accomplished actor, his credits include A Star is Born, for which he won a Golden Globe in 1977, and Heaven's Gate.

Reba McEntire paid tribute to the star, writing, "What a gentleman, kind soul, and a lover of words. I am so glad I got to meet him and be around him. One of my favorite people. Rest in peace, Kris."

Dolly Parton shared, "What a great loss, What a great writer, What a great actor, What a great friend. I will always love you, Dolly."

Trisha Yearwood posted a photo with Kris and wrote, "This one hurts. The word legend gets tossed around a lot but with Kristofferson the shoe fits. These are shoes that won’t be filled. Rest easy. 💔xoxo trisha"
