Dog Watches From Boat as Plane Scoops Up Water From Canadian Lake to Combat Forest Fire

A curious canine looked on from a boat as a water bomber picked up water from a lake to help fight a small forest fire in Newfoundland, Canada, on July 19.

Speaking to Storyful, Newfoundland native Stephen Woolfrey said that he brought his Lab-mastiff mix, the aptly named Skipper, to Indian Arm Pond lake to watch the fire crew collect water to extinguish a forest fire on the Trans Canada highway near Lewisporte Junction.

In a statement shared by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture in Newfoundland and Labrador on July 19, the fire index for the Lewisporte area was labeled “extreme” as officials cautioned that conditions continued to be hot and dry in the area. Credit: Stephen Woolfrey via Storyful
