Sweet Magnolias Navigate Love, Loss and Major Life Changes in Season 4 — Watch Trailer
Bless your hearts, Sweet Magnolias fans, your patience has finally paid off: the Netflix drama will return for its long-awaited fourth season on Thursday, Feb. 6 — and now we finally have a trailer.

According to the streamer’s official synopsis, Season 4 “takes us from Halloween to Christmas, with surprising laughter, unexpected heartbreak and renewed resolve along the way.” (Wait, “heartbreak”? Should we be worried?)
The synopsis continues: “While negotiating the twists and turns of their romantic lives, Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen must also navigate the return of old foes, the loss of great loves, and the pain of transition from past dreams to present ones.” (Excuse us, “the loss of great loves”? Now we’re really worried.)
“As the men in their lives pursue their own dreams and the teenagers take uneasy steps toward adulthood, the Magnolias support each other with creative problem-solving, deep-hearted commitment, and — as always — weekly margaritas,” the synopsis concludes.
Filming on these 10 episodes wrapped in May, an occasion JoAnna Garcia Swisher celebrated by posting a little teaser about her favorite season “by far.”
“I cannot wait for you all to see what we have been up to in Serenity,” she wrote on Instagram. “It’s been a magical season…for reasons I cannot wait to share. This was BY FAR my favorite season…not just for the OMG moments (there are many of them!), but because it was a joy to make. And, in many ways, it feels like we are just getting started.”
Unlike previous seasons, the Netflix drama’s third outing didn’t end with a traditional cliffhanger, instead giving everyone a (mostly) happy ending. Dana Sue and Ronnie renewed their vows in a beautiful ceremony, Helen caught the bride’s bouquet and made eyes at Erik, Maddie and Cal agreed to stay together and help each other grow, and Ty and Annie finally — wait for it — held hands! It was quite a finale. The fact that Bill finally left town (hopefully for good!) was merely the icing on the wedding cake.

Who Is Returning for Sweet Magnolias Season 4?
According to Netflix, here are the key cast members we can expect to see back in Serenity for Season 4: JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, Heather Headley, Logan Allen, Anneliese Judge, Carson Rowland, Dion Johnstone, Brandon Quinn, Jamie Lynn Spears, Chris Medlin and Justin Bruening.
The usual rotation of recurring characters — Mary Vaughn (Allison Gabriel), Paula (Caroline Lagerfelt), etc. — will also likely make appearances throughout the season.
Will Maddie and Cal Get Engaged in Season 4?
Prior to Cal’s detour into anger-ville, he and Maddie were ready to take their relationship to the next level. So now that he’s putting the many handsome pieces of his life back together, will he and Maddie also get back on track romantically?
Swisher tells us not to get too ahead of ourselves: “They fell in love quickly, and it was this swooping, wonderful gift in their lives. Then the dust settled, life happened, and they had some things to grapple with,” the actress reminds TVLine. “They’re catching their breath and enjoying life, celebrating that they made it over a big hurdle. I’m excited to see what the future holds for them.”
Will Helen and Erik (Finally) Get Together in Season 4?
Sure, Helen dropped Erik like a hot potato the minute Ryan rolled back into town, and Erik appears to have moved on with someone new… but there’s still hope for these two, right?
“They have to try it out,” Headley tells TVLine. “In the beginning of [Season 3], Helen says, ‘I have to see this through with Ryan. I have to punctuate it.’ That also needs to happen with Erik at some point. She has to see it through. It will always be something. They’ve got this energy between them. Even if Gertrude, Gwynevere — whatever her name is — comes into the fray, I do think they need a chance to see it through.”
Are Ty and Annie Dating in Season 4?
All signs (including the wedding PDA pictured here) point to yes! But the question is: How will the Magnolias handle two of their children dating each other?
“I think Dana Sue would love it, but she’s very protective, so it might cause some friction that Maddie and Dana Sue would have to work out,” Elliott theorizes. “Dana Sue loves Ty, and she holds him in high esteem, but I think she would look at him slightly differently if he’s dating her daughter. She would be a mama bear and would make him prove himself in a way he hasn’t had to do before.”
Has Sweet Magnolias Been Renewed for Season 5?
No, a fifth season has not been ordered, so enjoy every last second with the Magnolias this time around — you just never know which way Netflix’s pendulum of fate is going to swing.
