Does Modern Warfare 2 remastered have multiplayer? Here's everything to know about the game

After years of rumors Activision would offer a remastered version of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" for the PS4 and Xbox One, fans of the title will finally get their way as soon as this week.

The Video Games Chronicle reported Monday that "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered" would drop on Tuesday with the PlayStation Store's weekly update, and sure enough, it appeared for players to download in the early afternoon. The game, as previously reported, is tied to the newly released "Warzone" in that a purchase of the remaster will earn a classic ghost bundle in "Warzone" and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare."

The reboot will not have everything people desire, though, even if it should offer a significant callback to a previous era of the Modern Warfare series.

Here's what to expect from MW2 remastered:

Does Modern Warfare 2 remastered have multiplayer?

At least at launch, the game does not include multiplayer. That's somewhat of a shame — despite the frustrations of noob tubes and final stand, the game's pace, helter-skelter style and sheer power available to players compared to previous editions of the franchise made it a classic. It's possible (though perhaps unlikely) that a multiplayer update could be unveiled later.

There are remastered MW2 maps already in the "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" game. Backlot is expected to join Rust in that regard when the Season 3 DLC becomes available. We'd love to see the likes of Favela, Highrise and Terminal remastered down the road even if a complete MW2 multiplayer never comes.

Can I play spec ops on Modern Warfare 2 remastered?

Spec ops was another enjoyable aspect of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" — particularly when teaming up with friends to strategize alongside. Like multiplayer, though, it appears it will not be a part of the remastered launch.

What can I expect from the campaign mode?

Expect the same tempo and experience as the original. An early release revealed the infamous "No Russian" mission in which users are able to mow down airport civilians; there had been questions about whether Activision would keep that level in the remastered addition given the controversy it created the first time around.

With all of the eggs in the campaign basket, the hope is that this facelift holds up the way the first edition did in 2009.

"Originally developed by Infinity Ward, and now remastered by Beenox, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered delivers the full story experience with stunning high-definition visuals and the latest audio advancements," wrote Activision in a news release. "Whether you lived it back in 2009 or have yet to play this iconic blockbuster campaign, this is an experience hailed by critics as one of the most memorable and incredible single-player story campaigns ever.

Where will the Call of Duty remastered title be available?

It is available to download on the PlayStation 4 and will be available on Xbox One and PC at some point in the future.

Wrote Activision: "('Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered') is available for pre-purchase on other platforms, which will release at a later date."
