"He says he inherited this craft from his father, may God have mercy on his soul. He also used his experience in restoring monuments which he used to do. He nurtured his talent and started his own work.”

Taha toiled away in a workshop for ten months to make the model

largely motivated by his fear of forgetting its details

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORMER DIRECTOR OF PALMYRA CULTURAL CENTRE, AHMAD MITHKAL AL-ASHAAL, SAYING:

"This is a documentation of the city in details, its spaces, its shapes and everything. This work is beneficial for future generations and it gives us a small picture of Palmyra."

Al-Taha's dream is to return to Palmyra one day

to help restore the UNESCO World Heritage Site
