Disney slams 'arbitrary' California reopening plan
Walt Disney blasted California's new rules for reopening theme parks...calling the guidelines "arbitrary" and "unworkable."
The state's health secretary Mark Ghaly said large theme parks must wait until their home county’s coronavirus risk levels drop to “minimal” levels, the lowest rank in a tiered system.
That level means coronavirus cases number less than one per 100,000.
Ghaly on Tuesday acknowledged that a reopening date for Disneyland -- which has been closed for 7 months -- could be far off.
"We don't have a crystal ball, I don't know when Orange County or San Diego County will indeed enter yellow. There is a path forward there. We do not know when, but we do know how."
Disney has pleaded with Governor Gavin Newsom to relax the clampdown, but to no avail.
Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock said in response that the guidelines will keep the park "shuttered for the foreseeable future," adding that Disney has proven it can responsibly reopen.
According to the New York Times, Disney’s Florida theme park has so far not reported any major outbreaks resulting from its reopening.
