Disney+ Gets Launch Date for UK, Several Other European Countries

Disney+ is headed to Europe, with Disney saying on Tuesday that the new streaming service will debut in the United Kingdom on March 24.

To catch Baby Yoda on “The Mandalorian” or watch classic Disney shows, U.K. customers will need to pay between £5.99-£6.99 per month — or about $7.82 to $9.12 per month, making it a bit more expensive than the $6.99 per month subscribers pay in the U.S.

Several other European countries will get Disney+ at the same time as well, including Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. The Netherlands already has access to Disney+ since it was used as a test market. British and European subscribers will also have the option of paying between £59.99-£69.99 per year for the service, depending on the market.

While Disney hasn’t shared an update on Disney+’s performance since its early November debut, research firm Sensor Tower recently shared its app was downloaded 31 million times during Q4 in the U.S., easily making it the most downloaded app of the quarter. A deal with Verizon certainly helped boost Disney+ downloads, but the service has also been helped by the strong response to “The Mandalorian,” as well as its massive library of shows and movies.

Disney’s expansion announcement comes hours before Netflix is set to reports its Q4 financial performance.
