Discussions on RTS Link project can be concluded by end-July, MOT
This comes as Singapore and Malaysia have been engaged in “intensive discussion” over the RTS Link project, said the ministry.
Singapore has expressed optimism that discussions relevant to the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project could be concluded by the end of July, reported Channel News Asia (CNA).
“Like Malaysia, we are optimistic that the discussions on the outstanding matters can be concluded by the 31 July deadline,” a spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport (MOT) told CNA.
This comes as Singapore and Malaysia have been engaged in “intensive discussion” over the RTS Link project, said the ministry.
Works on the RTS Link, which was initially set for completion by 2024, has since been suspended.
In fact, the suspension had been extended three times at the request of Malaysia. The latest extension was due to the enforcement of the “circuit breaker” measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Singapore as well as Malaysia’s movement control order.
The RTS link will also connect to the Woodlands North MRT station on the Thomson-East Coast Line.

Johor’s Chief Minister Hasni Mohammad reportedly expects the project to commence work in November.
According to him, both countries are set to sign the agreement on the project by end-July, reported The Star.
Malaysian Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong also said it will wait for the city-state’s new Cabinet to form, given that Singapore’s General Election have been completed over the weekend.
“If we are able to complete the negotiations next week, the time would have come for us to seal the agreement. We must do all this before the 31 July deadline,” said Wee.
To link Woodlands in Singapore to Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru, the RTS Link will serve around 10,000 passengers per hour each way, helping ease traffic congestion on the Causeway.
