Director Apologizes for Comments on Actor's Apartment During Video Audition

A director who forgot to hit the mute button said he was “mortified” after being heard commenting negatively on an actor’s home during a video-call audition.

Actor Lukas Gage, known for his role in Euphoria, was in his apartment for the audition, and heard the director, identified as Tristram Shapeero, speaking disparagingly about Gage’s home to another person.

“These poor people live in these tiny apartments,” Shapeero says, unaware Gage can hear him. “I’m looking at his background and he’s got his TV…”

Gage then cuts in, saying: “I know it’s a s——y apartment that’s why [you should] give me this job so I can get a better one.”

“Oh my god, I am so, so sorry,” Shaperro replies. “I am absolutely mortified,” he says.

Shapeero has since issued an apology to Gage for what he described as his “unprofessional behavior.” Credit: Lukas Gage via Storyful
