Digital Spy magazine issue 3 - Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther, and the rise of the Black superhero
As we enter Black History Month, Digital Spy magazine issue 3 on Apple News+ is dedicated to Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther and the rise of the Black superhero.
We tragically lost Chadwick at the end of August following his four-year battle with colon cancer. The man, the legend, brought real-life Black heroes to the big screen and finally proved to Hollywood that diversity isn't a trend by shaking the world as King T'Challa with the cultural juggernaut that was Black Panther.
Our cover feature, written by our Picture and Multimedia Editor, Shyvonne Thomas and designed by illustrator Kingsley Nebechi, charts Black superheroes' long journey to the silver screen, especially Black Panther, which, as Shyvonne explains, "provided a cultural haven for Black audiences".

Earlier this year, I decided to publish our statement as a brand, explaining our support of the Black Lives Matter movement, and as the world faces a reckoning with racism, we've committed to doing our part to help. To elevate Black voices and fight systemic racism in our industry. To do the work, and to do better. To be a champion for change in an entertainment industry that simply isn't diverse enough. I'm delighted to tell you some of that work has come to fruition in this issue. And we're just getting started.
We've launched our new franchise, Digital Spy Rising, which champions emerging talent, beginning with '30 Black British actors of tomorrow'. This includes the key films and TV shows you need to watch them in, as well as their reactions to being selected by an esteemed panel of Black entertainment experts; including Lennie James, Susan Wokoma, Lolly Adefope, Levi David Addai, Yvonne Isimeme Ibazebo and Jo Johnson.
But that's not all, we also have all the times TV finally did Black History justice, as well as an explainer on Wonder Woman's Black twin sister, Nubia. Wouldn't it be a great time to bring her to the big screen, eh DC?
Beyond our coverage on Black entertainment, we've got an exclusive interview with Harry Lloyd ahead of Sky Atlantic and NOW TV's futuristic dystopian series, Brave New World.
