Didgeridoo master Mark Atkins to perform in KL for the first time
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 — One of Australia’s finest didgeridoo players, Mark Atkins, is coming to perform in Malaysia for the first time.
Jointly presented by the Australian High Commission of Malaysia and The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac), Mark Atkins, His Stories and His Music will be staged for one-night only on February 14, 2023 at Pentas 2, klpac.
Though recognised internationally having worked with musical giants such as Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and Sinead O’Connor, Atkins’ great passion is to share his own stories about his country, the land and the people.
A descendant of the Yamijti people of Western Australia as well as of Irish-Australian heritage, Atkins will draw on his rich and diverse background to offer an eclectic mix of original and new compositions featuring didgeridoo and guitar in this 50-minute performance.
Atkins said he was thrilled and excited to be able to share my musicianship, stories and music with fellow artists and the community in Kuala Lumpur.
“We have all been separated for far too long due to the pandemic, and these opportunities to interact and exchange across cultures are to be cherished. I look forward to meeting you all.”
This show will be conducted much like the tradition of sitting down and having a yarn, simulating a musical conversation between the instruments, the audience and Atkins, much of it improvised.
Dr Justin Lee, the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia said Atkins was one of the world’s most acclaimed didgeridoo players and they were delighted to bring his solo show to KL where local audiences can connect with his masterful command of the iconic instrument and immersive storytelling.
He added that for those keen to gain a better understanding of the didgeridoo and its significance in First Nations Australian culture, there was no better opportunity than to learn first-hand from Mark at his free didgeridoo workshop.
During the workshop on February 15 from 6pm to 7.30pm, the didgeridoo virtuoso will introduce the instrument, explain its significance in First Nations Australian culture, and guide participants through techniques to play the instrument.
Open to didgeridoo players of all levels aged 13 and over, places are
