Did “The View” just play fake audience applause for a Republican interview guest?

Did The View just play fake audience applause over a Republican interview guest's introduction?
Tuesday's live show certainly begged the question, as the series welcomed former Rep. Adam Kinzinger to the program for an interview. After moderator Whoopi Goldberg introduced a preview of the former Illinois congressman's new project, the show's studio audience clapped for Kinzinger — though louder audio of a cheering audience kicked in during the clip (which you can hear for yourself in the footage above), before rapidly fading away as Kinzinger and cohost Sunny Hostin began to speak.
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for The View for comment.
Similar audio played during a May 2023 episode, which featured an appearance by New Hampshire's Republican governor, Chris Sununu.
At the time, a spokesperson for the show told EW that "there was no applause track" and "that was all live applause" inside the show's New York City studio.

Tuesday's episode of The View also marked a rare occurrence for the table of panelists, with three cohosts — Joy Behar, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin — being absent from the lineup across one day. Former cohost Abby Hunstman, who left the program in 2020, returned to the table to fill in alongside former Bachelor and Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay.
Huntsman is one of many notable conservative cohosts the show has employed among its largely liberal roster. Other Republican fixtures who've sat at the Hot Topics table include Meghan McCain, Candace Cameron Bure, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Current cohosts Ana Navarro and Griffin are also registered Republicans, with Griffin — who missed Tuesday's show to attend a doctor's appointment as she undergoes IVF treatment — even previously working under Donald Trump at the White House before resigning and subsequently speaking out against him.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC. Listen to the audio from Kinzinger's appearance in the clip above.
