What Did Jack See in the Virgin River Season 6 Finale? Here Are Our Theories

It’s the question on every Virgin River fan’s mind as we enter the long hiatus ahead of the Netflix drama’s seventh season: What the heck did Jack see in Charmaine’s nursery?

When Jack’s ex-fiancée is a no-show at his and Mel’s wedding in the Season 6 finale, he offers to swing by for a wellness check, only to find Charmaine’s house in disarray. We get that she’s a single mother of infant twins, so we’re not expecting her place to be spotless, but something about the excessively chaotic state of Chez Charmaine doesn’t sit right with us.

It also doesn’t sit right with Jack, whose investigation leads him into the twins’ bedroom, where he discovers something unexpected. Something unsettling. Something worthy of a finale cliffhanger. Just don’t ask Jack’s portrayer, Martin Henderson, what it is; he had no idea what he was looking at when he filmed the pivotal scene.

“It’s a testament to [Martin’s] acting talent that he was able, in a single look, to create several possible outcomes of what he was seeing,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith tells TVLine. “But yeah, Charmaine has found herself in the middle of a mess again, which is where her character tends to reside.”

So, what is Jack looking at when the finale cuts to black? Read on for a list of our theories, along with more insight from the show’s cast and crew, then drop a comment with your own thoughts below.

Our prevailing (slash simplest) theory is that Calvin has made good on his threat to snatch up the twins, and Jack and Mel will find themselves reluctantly assisting Charmaine in getting them back next season.

And if Calvin did snatch up the twins, who’s to say that he didn’t also kidnap Charmaine? It was strange of Charmaine to ghost Mel on her wedding day, only to text that “something came up.” Maybe her kidnapper was the one who sent that text message.

Now for the unthinkable: Could Charmaine be… dead? It doesn’t feel like a route that Virgin River would take in this instance, but she also wouldn’t be the show’s first casualty.

Then again, maybe we’re dramatizing for no reason. Until we have a definitive answer, it’s entirely possible that Jack is merely gazing upon the wreckage of an untidy nursery.

Discussing the cliffhanger with TVLine, Smith jokes, “At one point, I was like, ‘Guys, what if we come back in this moment and it’s just like a Peloton? Maybe Jack didn’t know she had a Peloton!’”

(To be fair, a Peloton could actually be a juicy addition to this show. Remember when they added one to And Just Like That? It literally killed Carrie Bradshaw’s husband!)
