Diablo 4 sales are over US$666 million in its first five days

The Mother is pleased.

Diablo 4 is a big game — not only for players, but for Activision Blizzard.

Blizzard's latest press release numbers state that the Diablo 4 has crossed the "auspicious" US$666 million mark, and is the "best-selling opening" in its history. It's also its fastest-selling game.

Other numbers mentioned in the release state that players have already played more than 276 million hours, or a total of 30,000 years. And you'd be pleased to know that over 276 billion demons have been slain since the game's Early Access period.

But what's more impressive is that only 163 players have made it to the max level in Hardcore mode, where death is permanent.

But for the non perma-death players, they have since died 316 million times, with over 5 million of those deaths the fault of one of Diablo's most iconic villains, the Butcher.

“On behalf of Blizzard, we want to thank the millions of players around the world who are immersing themselves in Diablo IV,” said Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment.

Diablo IV is a result of our incredible teams working together to craft and support genre-defining games, build legendary worlds, and inspire memories that will last a lifetime. We’re humbled by the response, proud of the team, and remain committed to listening to our players and ensuring Diablo continues to exceed expectations for years to come.”

The success of Diablo 4 proves that the top-down action RPG genre is going strong, and players appreciate a game made well with a great storyline and gameplay. In comparison, Overwatch 2 drew ire when Blizzard announced that it was gutting the PVE mode that was supposed to come for the new game.

Blizzard also didn't include any pay-to-win microtransanctions in the game, unlike in Diablo Immortal. Players can buy cosmetics to jazz up their looks, but for everything else in the game, such as the most powerful loot, they will have to depend on their luck and put in the hours to grind.
