Devastation caused by lava on Spanish island

Drones captured images of thick smoke rising into the sky, with some houses succumbing to fires caused by the molten rock passing through the area.

Red hot lava has devastated the island, with flows eventually reaching the Atlantic Ocean late on Tuesday evening.

Officials said the lava flowing into the sea could trigger explosions and clouds of toxic gases and the Canary Islands' emergency service urged those outdoors to immediately find a safe place to shelter.

No injuries have been reported.
