2. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) JUVENTUS COACH, MAURIZIO SARRI SAYING:

"This match leaves me devastated. It made me realise how cursed this competition is for Juventus. If there wasn't this great dismay, I would be very happy because I saw the players regenerated, they gave everything and they struggled until the end, they put soul and heart on the field. I really liked them"

4. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) JUVENTUS COACH, MAURIZIO SARRI SAYING:

"Tonight we had a good match, a match we had to come back from, we found ourselves losing by one point with a penalty, in my opinion crazy. We should not have been there on the pitch (the penalty area). There was a pretty evident foul on (Juventus striker Gonzalo) Higuaín. The penalty we received seems to me very questionable. The referee wasn't up to the task, because that wasn't one goal against us, but two."

6. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) JUVENTUS COACH, MAURIZIO SARRI SAYING:

"You are asking me to tell you what I would say to the president, and I think it is a bit too much, honestly. I would like to speak to the presidents first. I don't expect anything, what do you want me to expect? I go home furious tonight, because we were knocked out. In the next days we will talk and there will be evaluations and everybody will speak his opinion."

8. (SOUNDBITE) (French) OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS COACH, RUDI GARCIA SAYING:

"Real Madrid would have been good because that would have allowed me to see Eden Hazard again, besides we had spoken on the phone and we had given ourselves an appointment to meet, so I will say to Eden: 'I am there'. Unfortunately, I would have liked him to be there too but anyway, we knew that Manchester City, with the result of the first leg, had put themselves in a good place to go through. We know we have got a long way to go and the Champions League is a long road. We did well against Juventus and we'll do everything we can to do the same against Manchester City. They are superior to us but Juventus were also superior to us and that didn't stop us from going through. We must not limit ourselves. We must not limit ourselves. There's no point in predicting anything. But we'll have to give it our all in this semi-final. I'm sorry, I hope that's a revealing slip of the tongue... in this quarter-final against Manchester City we need to have confidence in ourselves and think that we can do it and reach the semi-finals."

STORY: Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri was devastated on Friday (August 7) by his team's last-16 Champions League exit to Olympique Lyonnais but said he did not believe he would be judged solely on a match which saw them go out on goal difference after winning 2-1 on the night.

Despite winning a ninth successive Serie A title last month, Sarri's team have not managed to convince the critics during his first season in charge. Their failure to even match last season's quarter-finals performance in the Champions League has added to the pressure on the 61-year-old.

"If there wasn't this great dismay, I would be very happy," Sarri said after his side were knocked out on away goals following a 2-2 aggregate draw.

"There was a pretty evident foul on Higuaín. The penalty we received seems to me very questionable." he added.

Sarri pointed out that his side had dropped only two points in the group stage and were unbeaten in the competition until their 1-0 first leg defeat to Lyon in March, before the COVID-19 outbreak interrupted the season for three months.

On his future, he said: "You are asking me to tell you what I would say to the president, and I think it is a bit too much, honestly. I would like to speak to the presidents first."

Lyon coach Rudi Garcia was very happy to have beaten Juventus, explaining he was proud of his team and looking forward to playing Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

"We did well against Juventus and we'll do everything we can to do the same against Manchester City", he said during the news conference.
