Dentist and Son Charged After Woman Found Stabbed to Death Following 'Chilling' 911 Call
Amber Spradlin was found fatally stabbed in the home of Michael McKinney ll, who has been arrested alongside Michael McKinney lll and Josh Mullins
Authorities in Kentucky have arrested three people, including a renowned dentist, in connection with the murder of a woman found dead in his home last year.
State troopers responded to a Martin, Ky., home on June 18, 2023, and found Amber Spradlin with “life-threatening injuries as a result of suspected foul play,” Kentucky State Police said at the time.
Following a year-long investigation, authorities arrested Michael McKinney ll, Michael McKinney lll and Josh Mullins on several charges, police said on July 31.
McKinney III, 24, was arrested on charges of murder and several counts of complicity to evidence tampering, KSP said in their statement.
McKinney II, 56, and Mullins, 23, are also facing several counts of complicity to evidence tampering, per police.
McKinney ll, who began as a dentist in 1994, is highly reputed in his community, according to testimonials on the website for his practice, where he also identifies McKinney III as his son.
A lawsuit filed by Spradlin’s family has made several allegations against McKinney II and McKinney III, among other parties, including members of the local police department.
Claims made in the lawsuit, which was shared by local outlet Mountain Top Media, have not been confirmed or denied by KSP. PEOPLE has reached out to both KSP as well as the Prestonsburg Police Department for their comments on the allegations, but they did not immediately respond.
The complaint alleges that hours before the murder, McKinney III (referred to as MK in the document) and one Roy Kidd left a local inn, owned by McKinney II (referred to as McKinney Senior) with Spradlin and went to McKinney Senior's home.
Hours later, Prestonsburg police received a 911 emergency call, which was made by MK, the lawsuit alleges. McKinney Senior allegedly got on the call “to ensure that no emergency response was going to be sent to his home,” the complaint claims.
The complaint further alleges that no one from the police department went to the residence for a wellness check and that MK stabbed Spradlin several times following the initial 911 call.
The lawsuit further alleges McKinney Senior called Randy Woods, who was a Prestonsburg police chief at the time of the incident, before the second 911 call, and that Spradlin may have been alive at the time.
A Floyd County judge has since said there was a third 911 call from the residence that morning was "chilling," per NBC.
The lawsuit also alleges "defendants" at the residence possibly removed security cameras and did not report Spradlin’s death “until after efforts were made to cover up the crime.”
It wasn’t immediately clear if authorities are investigating others named in the lawsuit.

McKinney Senior was released on $250,000 bail and has pleaded not guilty, NBC further reported, citing court records. McKinney Jr is being held on $5 million bail, per court records, and has pleaded not guilty.
McKinney Senior was not available for comments when contacted at his practice on Monday.
Woods has denied the allegations, according to a court filing, per NBC.
The publication also noted that Mullins was indicted on multiple counts of tampering and pleaded not guilty.
