Now, the 46-year-old who recently appeared in The Celebrity Circle and Dancing On Ice has said she had fun and didn't feel taken advantage of, seeing them as good memories to look back on.

She told The Sun: “I look back at them fondly, I have no regrets about the shoots. They were fun to do. It was very fashionable at the time and I enjoyed all of it. I never felt uncomfortable.”

Van Outen added that she kept to her own personal boundaries about how much flesh she was willing to show.

She said: “I was quite selective anyway. I never did anything topless, there was more of a fashion approach to it.”

The West End actor said she keeps her old lads' mag copies in a box in the attic and is planning to dig them out for the autobiography she is currently writing.

She said that penning her memoirs had been "cathartic" and said allowed her to "reflect on all the mad things I’ve done in my life".

Admitting that the 90s had included "a lot of heartbreak and heartache" for her, she added:“I always thought I just wanted to get through that but when I look back I think, actually, I had a brilliant time.”

Meanwhile, Michelle Keegan, 33, recently told the Mail On Sunday's You magazine that she didn't regret her lads' mag shoots from her Coronation Street days either – but wished they had been a little more tasteful.

She said: "I don’t regret doing them. At the time it was the norm and I don’t think I was taken advantage of.

"But I look back now and wish they’d been done a bit more tastefully. Now I’m getting older I’ve learnt I can be in control more. I have got a voice. If I don’t feel that I want to do something in a particular way, I can always say, 'No.'"
