Denise Ho elated over US passing the HK Human Rights Act
21 Nov– Singer-turned-activist Denise Ho is over the moon following news that the US has passed the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019.
As reported on Epoch Times, on 20 November, the legislation aiming to protect the human rights in Hong Kong, which was passed by the United States House of Representatives in October, has also been approved recently by the US Senate recently. This includes providing sanctions against officials responsible for human rights violations in Hong Kong, urging China to uphold its commitment to Hong Kong, and support the democratic aspirations of the Hong Kong people.
The bills will be going to the White House for the President, Donald Trump to sign or veto. Trump has ten days to make his decision.
Following the news, Denise took to Twitter to express her happiness, writing, "Thank you! People, the Act has passed the Senate, finally! Hong Kong, we did it!"
She also thanked Senator Marco Rubio in a response to his tweet, saying that his support was crucial in pushing the act.
In another post on Facebook, Denise wrote, "Hong Kong people have moved all the senators through five and a half months of persistence. I am also grateful to Hong Kong friends who have been lobbying in the United States for many months. Thank you guys!"
She also promised that the efforts will not go to waste and that Hong Kong people will continue to strive to change the world.
