Demon Slayer anime confirms Season 2 release date

Earlier this year, we found out that the Demon Slayer sequel was in the pre-production stage. Now, we finally have a confirmed Japanese release date: 5 December 2021, according to the official social media of the Demon Slayer anime series.

The second season of Kimetsu No Yaiba, or Demon Slayer, will follow the storyline of the Entertainment District arc of the manga series. It follows the journey of Tanjiro, Inosuke and Zenitsu, who help the Sound Pillar Tengen Uzui search for his missing wives. Apparently, his wives have disappeared while investigating rumours of demons in the district.

The sequel will once again be produced by the animation studio Ufotable, who produced both the first season of Demon Slayer and its Mugen Train arc movie. It seems an electrifying battle will ensue, as the demon slayers go up against Upper Rank Six demon Daki, voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro.

Besides that, there will also be a seven-episode anime series of the Mugen Train arc, set to air in Japan from 10 October. These episodes are edited from the Mugen Train movie that's already been released last year, but also feature new content. The brand new first episode will start off the series from the point of view of the Flame Pillar Kyojuro Rengoku, as he makes his way to the Mugen Train. The remaining episodes will feature a new cut of the Mugen Train movie, with added scenes and new background music.

The Mugen Train arc series’ opening song Akeboshi and ending song Shirogane will be sung by LiSA again, who is known for Demon Slayer’s first season opening song Gurenge, and the Mugen Train movie’s theme song Homura. As for the Entertainment District arc series, Aimer will be singing both the opening song Zankyosanka and the ending song Asa Ga Kuru.

Both the Mugen Train and Entertainment District episodes will eventually be made available on streaming sites, including Netflix, after their release on Japanese TV channels. Although there is not much information on the international release yet, we will likely hear more from distributor Muse Asia in time to come, as they will be distributing Demon Slayer’s Entertainment District arc regionally.
