Demi Moore's Sequined Blue Mermaid Gown Featured an Unexpected Avant-Garde Detail at the Hips
A high-fashion take on mermaidcore.
Demi Moore is making waves with her latest look at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. On Friday, the actress continued her sparkling style streak in the South of France while attending the Chopard Trophée Awards in a sequined turquoise gown that took the mermaidcore trend into uncharted fashion waters.
For the occasion, Moore—who served as the Chopard godmother to Challengers' Mike Faist and Talk to Me's Sophie Wilde—wore a strapless blue column dress from Balenciaga that featured an unexpected avant-garde detail. In light of its streamlined silhouette, the gown subtly jutted out at both hips with pointy, cone-like accents and also included a small train that trailed behind her.
Moore added even more sparkle to her outfit with a statement necklace that was constructed from more than 70 carats of tourmaline jewels and 43 carats of diamonds set in 18k white gold, as well as a diamond cocktail on her left index finger. Her dark brunette hair was styled sleek and straight with a middle part, while the rest of her beauty look included a mauve lip, rosy cheeks, and a flick of black eyeliner.

At the event, Moore expressed her excitement about being appointed as “a godmother" to Faist and Wilde, before joking that in the U.S. “being a godmother kind of means that you have no responsibility," adding, “that you get to give the kids all the things that the parents don't allow, like candy and toys.”
Still, Moore promised to guide Faist and Wilde as long as they wanted her advice. "I feel that you are both so accomplished and talented that I argue you need nothing from me and have all the resources within yourself to handle whatever comes your way," she said. “But as your appointed godmother, remember I'm not just here for the fun stuff, and you don't have to do it alone.”
