Death Toll Rises as Rescue Crews Pick Through Surfside Rubble
Rescue efforts were ongoing at the site of the Champlain Towers condo collapse in Surfside, Florida, almost a week after the initial incident.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said at a press conference on Wednesday morning that four additional bodies had been recovered overnight, bringing the total fatality count to 16. The mayor said 147 were still unaccounted for, but the numbers were “fluid and likely to change.”
