At least 52 people have died after a deadly fire ripped through a food processing factory in Rupganj, Bangladesh, on July 8, local media reported.
The factory, located 25km (15 miles) east of the country’s capital Dhaka, caught fire around 5:30 pm on Thursday, July 8.
Officials told bdnews24 that the high death toll was the result of an exit door to the rooftop being locked, with the only other access to the roof blocked as the fire spread to a second stairwell.
Searches were continuing for other workers in the building as firefighters attempted to reach the upper floors of the six-tier building, officials said. Credit: Parvez Ahmad Rony/DrikNews via Storyful
